Donna Walker-Muhammed, aka Donna Marie, is a Death Doula, Serious Illness Companion, End-of-Life and Love Legacy Planner, and Celebrant who supports individuals across the lifespan—those in good health, those living with serious or life-limiting illness, and those approaching the end of life. Her holistic approach is rooted in deep respect for human dignity, personal agency, and the sacredness of every moment of life. Donna offers gentle, steady, and non-judgmental companionship, showing up with warmth and presence, often in the spirit of a friend, and creating space for honesty, reflection, and the full range of human emotion.
Donna’s calling to this work deepened through the loss of her father in 2014 and through supporting her mother as a caretaker, followed by transition, grief, and end-of-life planning. Through these experiences, Donna came to see how moments throughout her life prepared her to accompany others through transition with compassion, steadiness, and care. Growing up in New Orleans, Louisiana, Donna experienced death as communal, music and movement as medicine, and how grief, joy, celebration, and mourning could coexist.
Donna was raised in a culture where ancestors are honored and death is not hidden. Storytelling is understood as healing, grounding people in memory and identity, where ritual is lived rather than performed and spirituality draws from many traditions. These influences shape how Donna walks with others through life’s transitions. She believes life unfolds through a series of delicate transitions, that each breath is sacred and connected to the breaths of our ancestors, and that legacy is living and never dies.
